Submission Guidelines
General Requirements
BALAS only accepts submissions in English; all presentations must be completed in English for the Annual Conference.
All submissions must be anonymous, in A4 format, provided in MS Word or PDF format, on simple-spaced pages with 1-inch margins, and in 11pt fonts (Times New Roman preferred).
All submissions must have page numbers at the bottom center.
Author profiles, biographies, and acknowledgements must be fully removed from all submitted materials. This includes eliminating any identifying information (i.e., names, institutional affiliations, emails, or any contacts) from the title page and from the file properties.
All submissions must focus on Latin America or be clearly relevant to Latin America.
All submissions must include an abstract (or case summary as first part of the Teaching Note) that should not exceed 250 words in length.
Below the abstract (or case summary as first part of the Teaching Note), the submission must include from 4 to 6 appropriate and short keywords that capture the principal track and topics of the paper (e.g., main theory/concepts, main model, outcome/principal variables, main technique, among others).
Below the keywords, the submission must include its category type: Competitive Paper, Working Paper, Doctoral Colloquium, Teaching Case.
The abstract (or case summary as first part of the Teaching Note), the keywords, and the category of the submission accepted for presentation will be published in the Conference Proceedings.
Extended abstracts or research ideas/opinions do not constitute an acceptable form of submission and will be rejected.
Submission Categories
Competitive Papers
Submissions in this category should be fully developed manuscripts that are nearing completion. Submissions in this category should not exceed 10,000 words in length, including APA references and appendices. Depending on quality, manuscripts classified as competitive papers may be recommended for fast-track publication at a BALAS associated journal or be nominated for a research paper award.

Working Papers
Submissions in this category are shorter manuscripts in earlier stages of development. Submissions in this category typically do not exceed 6,000 words in length, including APA references and appendices. Manuscripts classified as working papers will not be recommended for fast-track publication at a BALAS associated journal and will not be nominated for a research paper award.

Doctoral Colloquium
Submissions in this category must have a doctoral student as principal author and be in any of the three stage of development (“before proposal”, “ready for proposal”, or “after doctoral proposal defense”). Submissions in this category should not exceed 3,000 words in length, including APA references. For more advanced manuscripts, please consider the competitive paper or working paper categories. Depending on quality, a doctoral presentation may be nominated for the Best Doctoral Colloquium Presentation Award.

Teaching Cases
Submissions in this category has two foci. The first focus is about teaching management in Latin America, covering pedagogical projects, curricular frameworks, activities of curricular interest, and interdisciplinary integration. The second focus is on cases used to teach management in Latin America. These should be prepared for classroom use, with teaching notes included, preferring real-life over hypothetical cases. Games and other learning exercises are also welcome and should be presented for use by other teachers. Depending on quality, a teaching case with its teaching note may be nominated for the Best Teaching Case Award.
