Paper Submission Guide
General Requirements

BALAS only accepts submissions in English; all research presentations must be completed in English.

All submitted work must have a focus on Latin America or be clearly relevant to Latin America.

All submissions must include an abstract that should not exceed 200 words in length. The abstracts of papers accepted for research presentation will be published in the conference proceedings.

Author names must be fully removed from all submitted materials. This includes eliminating any identifying information from the title page and from the file properties.

Extended abstracts or research proposals do not constitute an acceptable form of submission and will be rejected.
Submission Categories
Competitive Papers
Submissions in this category should be fully developed manuscripts that are nearing completion. Depending on quality, manuscripts classified as competitive papers may be recommended for fast-track publication at a BALAS associated journal or be nominated for a research paper award. Submissions in this category should not exceed 10,000 words in length, including references.
Working Papers
Submissions in this category are shorter manuscripts in earlier stages of development. Manuscripts classified as working papers will not be recommended for fast-track publication at a BALAS associated journal and will not be nominated for a research paper award. Submissions in this category typically do not exceed 6,000 words in length, including references.
Doctoral Colloquium Submissions
Submissions in this category must have a doctoral student as principal investigator (PI) and be in a relatively early stage of development. For more advanced manuscripts, please consider the competitive paper or working paper categories. Submissions in this category should not exceed 3,000 words in length, including references.
Paper Submission Link
The paper submission link is now active. The deadline for submissions has been extended to February 25th, 2024 and there are no submission fees this year.
