The COPPEAD Graduate School of Business is a public federal educational institution, part of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the most prestigious university of Brazil. COPPEAD enjoys a reputation as one of the top business schools in the country.

The School has had the lead in the development of a number o programs in Brazil and was the first Brazilian and South American School to be listed in the Financial Times global rankings. In 2006, COPPEAD was granted accreditation by EQUIS (The European Quality Improvement System). In 2007, COPPEAD pioneered the newly created Brazilian accreditation system set by ANPAD (Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Administração). It is also accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (CAPES agency) and is member of EFMD, AACSB, BALAS and CLADEA.

COPPEAD was founded in 1973 and, from the start, it was guided by the vision to create an educational institution capable of meeting the highest international standards in its field.  COPPEAD offers stricto sensu programs (namely the full-time MBA or mestrado and the doctoral program) and lato sensu programs that constitute its executive education portfolio (Executive MBA programs; pre-experience and continuing education programs; and in-company programs, both on campus style and distance-learning)

COPPEAD offers majors in four distinct areas of expertise: 1) Finance and Managerial Control; 2) Organizations, Strategy and Information Systems; 3) Marketing and International Business and 4) Operations, Technology and Logistics.

COPPEAD offers its students the possibility of acquiring global experience: it has an exchange student program with a growing number of top partner business schools in North America, South America, Europe and Australia It also has a study-tour program abroad, a summer job program, a job placement program, a coaching program and dual-degree opportunities.

COPPEAD is one of the business schools in Brazil most involved in international affairs. Over the years, COPPEAD has established strategic alliances with prestigious business schools in Europe, North and South America involving several aspects of its activities with a major impact on the international dimension of the school.

COPPEAD’s faculty is intensely involved in research and publication activities, both in Brazil and abroad. There are four specialized research centers: the Center of Logistics Studies, the Center of Financial Studies, the Center of International Business Studies (and the Center for Consumer Research Studies (sponsored by a L’Oréal chair).

COPPEAD is one of the editors of the Latin American Business Review (LABR), a scholarly-refereed quarterly on Latin American Business and Economics published by Howarth Press, in association with the EGADE-Tec de Monterrey School of Business and with the University of San Diego Ahlers Center of International Business.
