ESPAE, the semi-autonomous Graduate School of Management at ESPOL, was established in November 29th, 1983 as a Graduate Program in Business Administration, started its activities in May 1984, offering a part time MBA, becoming later the Graduate School of Management. In his actions emphasizes leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and the application of information technology into business, which has positioned ESPAE as pioneer in different fields. ESPAE started in 1995 the first Specialization program in Health Care Administration in the country, and in 2003 the First Master in Taxation, in response to specific needs in Ecuador. ESPAE is also a national and regional referent in entrepreneurship education and applied research in entrepreneurship.

ESPAE leads currently the Entrepreneur Development Program at ESPOL, started the Entrepreneurs Development Center, and has a group of researchers, a working papers series and a collection of Ecuadorian entrepreneurs’ cases. ESPAE participates in important national projects, among them the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor for Ecuador. In Economics and Finance, faculty from ESPAE is executing projects such as a study of the impact of FTA in Ecuador’s economy and the Burkenroad Reports in Latin America. The Center for Asia Pacific Studies operates at the School and is led by an ESPAE Professor. ESPAE is also a partner institution of the World Economic Forum.

ESPAE possess a Quality Management System for its academic processes, and was certified ISO 9001 2000 in October 2006, and is currently under a process of self evaluation towards accreditation with the local accreditation body CONEA.
During two consecutive years was ranked among the best 50 business schools in Latin America by America Economia Magazine´s ranking; in 2007 the first in Ecuador.

ESPAE currently has 40 professors and about 250 students in all its master programs and until December 2007 had 1709 graduates corresponding to the following programs:

  • 24 cohorts of PMBA
  • 11 cohorts of EMBA
  • 3 cohorts Master in Taxation
  • 3 cohorts Master in Hospital Management (5 cohorts in the previous Specialization in Health Care Management)

International dimension.- ESPAE is member of CLADEA (Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administración), AACSB (The International Association for Management Education, EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development), The Executive MBA Council  and BALAS (The Business Association  of Latin American Studies), and is currently applying for membership in PACIBER (Pacific Asian Consortium for International Business Education and Research).

ESPAE has agreements for institutional cooperation with Universities and Business Schools in the United States, Canada and Latin America, namely Tulane University, University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia) ICESI (Colombia), Universidad de Belgrano (Argentina) and ESAN (Perú).

In addition to the academic offer, ESPAE performs research and development programs of impact in the academy and the society in general that contribute to the development of updated and quality professorships.

ESPAE current mission is:
 “Contribute to the improvement of the managerial and business capacity of private, public and non-profit organizations, and their insertion in the global economy, through an education based on entrepreneurship, ethics and social responsibility.”
